PRE-ALPHA VERTICAL SLICE / PROOF OF CONCEPT
A little Gloop you can play.
Gloop is a living-alchemy tactical puzzle prototype about a strange organism that absorbs matter, changes Temper, splits, recombines, and helps a vulnerable Hero cross dangerous Origins.
This is an unfinished systems demonstration, not a finished game.
Download the playable vertical slice
Windows 64-bit: unzip the complete archive, open Gloop-Windows, and run Gloop.exe.
macOS Universal (Apple silicon + Intel): unzip, then open Gloop.app. The app is not yet notarized. If macOS blocks the first launch, Control-click the app, choose Open, then confirm Open once.
What is in this slice
- A small summer Overworld connecting the game’s modes.
- 12 linked Origin levels that introduce movement, mass, layers, and elemental Tempers, plus a 13th infinite level generator.
- The completed Air Temper finale, Origin: Wind Roads, built around Thermal Vents, Bounce, and Balloon currents.
- A physical Tablework bench and evidence-driven Fieldbook foundation.
- Mouse and keyboard camera controls, fullscreen support, and authored tactical HUDs.
The First Pattern
Explore. Encounter. Remember.
The Overworld connects the tactical Origins and the Tablework bench. The table tracks things you encounter as you play; new entries are logged with a golden !. The Fieldbook keeps a record of what you have seen and what Gloop has done.
Two units. One living Hero at the exit.
Gloop is your own unit to control, separate from your Hero. It exists to help your Hero get to the purple square alive. Use Gloop’s movement, mass and Temper to work through the obstacles; getting Gloop to the exit is not the objective.
Ground, Air and Burrow
Each terrain column has three tactical layers: Ground is the primary battlefield, Air is the space above it, and Burrow is the hidden layer beneath it. Your Hero stays on Ground. Gloop can use the layers available to its current Temper to help find a route through the puzzle.
Rocks block Ground routes but can be passed over in Air. Burrow can pass beneath them where the underlying surface is Dirt or Soot; water closes off the Burrow route beneath it.
12 Origins, then keep going
Play through 12 Origin levels, then take on the 13th infinite level generator for more tactical puzzles.

Pre-alpha boundaries
- Campaign disk saves are not implemented; Continue is intentionally disabled.
- The Level Forge is currently a Unity Editor development tool, not a feature in this player build.
- The experimental Free Create / parcel sculptor is not included in the public route.
- Art, writing, balance, onboarding, performance, and compatibility are all in active development.
- Expect bugs, rough edges, placeholder assets, and systems that may change substantially.
Please report problems through GitHub Issues and include your operating system plus a screenshot when possible.
MUCH MORE TO COME
This playable slice is an early look at Gloop’s direction. We’re targeting hundreds of Tempers and sophisticated forms, with sprawling puzzle levels and head-to-head tactical combat. These are ambitions for the full game, not the scope of this pre-alpha slice.

Concepts & early experiments
A strange little puddle, from… up?
Gloop is living, programmable matter: creature, material, inventory, and fabrication system in one strange little body. Study substances, teach Gloop their patterns, then use its finite body to build, transform, and solve.
Tuned into its surroundings
At a micro-cosmic level, Gloop learns from the world around it and echoes it back. Matter becomes a vocabulary for exploration and problem solving.
