Ahoy, Pokemans and Pokemanettes!
Dittomon: Mewtation is a work-in-progress Pokemon FireRed difficulty hack about one unstable Ditto and it's enhanced ability to copy, retain, and outpace it's opponents. Is it strong enough to beat the whole game by itself..? You'll put it to the test in this Kaizo-like challenge.
You do not catch a normal team, nay--all you get is Dittomon. But that is hardly a disadvantage. You travel through Kanto with one Dittomon, scout what the world has to offer, copy useful forms, borrow moves, manipulate abilities, and turn familiar Pokemon knowledge into a survival tool. In hardcore mode, you'll find yourself rolling fresh builds over and over to conquer the fight you're stuck on. Losing doesn't mean the end of your run--it just means your Dittomon has to start from scratch, and rebuild to greatness.
This is still FireRed-shaped, but progress means something different here. While you can't catch Pokemon, a wild encounter might show you a form, ability, move, or gimmick that matters later. Trainer battles are not just obstacles. They're serving up entrees for your odd little pink glob.
This is a public beta. Balance, text, trainer design, progression hooks, quality-of-life details, and custom puzzle fights are still being revised, but the game WORKS mostly as intended. Feedback is very welcome. Gameplay state is intentional--you may find yourself wondering why some things are as they are. Trust, get into it. Have fun!

How To Think About It
Win with Dittomon.
That is the real rule. The hack is designed to bake its restrictions into the game itself. If Dittomon can do something, you are allowed to do it. If you think something is too cheese, report it to me.
Scout forms. Revisit areas. Talk to people. Check Oak's Lab. Try strange ideas. The game is about finding what Dittomon can become.
Also worth noting--if you're going for a full transform (ability, moves, form) it is recommended to back into it--grab your ability, copy your preferred moves, THEN take the form. This is the way.
Known Beta Notes
This is not a final release.
Some text is still being rewritten. Some vanilla NPCs remain untouched. Some custom fights are only the beginning of a larger puzzle-trainer structure. Balance will keep moving as players find broken strategies, dead ends, and unexpectedly perfect nonsense.
Please save normally. If you find a crash or softlock, please report:
- emulator or device
- build date or patch filename
- where it happened
- what Dittomon was transformed into, if relevant
- whether Hardcore Mode was on
- what happened immediately before the issue
mGBA is the main desktop recommendation. Handheld and device testing is also valuable, especially Anbernic / ArkOS-style setups.
Coupla notes--the game varies from FireRed through Pewter City, and after that, its just you and Dittomon and the PUM on until Champion. This game has been beaten once in regular mode, and has yet to be beaten in Hardcore Mode. HC mode is more fun for many people. Try it out!
Planned Direction
Future builds are aimed at making Dittomon feel less like a ruleset on top of FireRed and more like its own authored game.
Planned work includes:
- more custom puzzle trainers
- more Mewtation unlock fights
- more complete NPC writing passes
- stronger boss identity
- cleaner Hardcore Mode pacing
- additional route and dungeon clue design
- better beta documentation as systems settle
